Tangier is a fascinating Moroccan city to visit. It has many of the things that travelers love, a sense of exotic mystery, interesting history, beautiful vistas, unspoiled beaches, and friendly people. Contrary to popular belief the Movie Casablanca was based on the city of Tangier and not Casablanca. Tangier also has the reputation as the city of spies during the 19th and 20th centuries and this reputation came about due to its political neutrality and commercial liberty at that time. Today it is an interesting mix of North Africa, Spanish, and French cultures.

After boarding your air-conditioned private vehicle, we drive to the top of the Kasbah (fort) through one of Tangier's most historically and architecturally interesting areas. The Kasbah area is spread across the highest point of the medina (Old Town). At top, you'll find yourself in an area that is largely unchanged since the Roman times. The Kasbah was the traditional residence of the sultan and his harem and is now one of the most fashionable residential areas of Tangier -- it is a quieter quarter than other parts of the city.

The Kasbah Museum is newly renovated and focuses on the history of the neighborhood. You're sure to enjoy the traditional courtyard, the various displays, and the large mosaic works of art on display. Winding your way back down the hill, your guide leads you into one of Tangier's most colourful and bustling areas, the Grand Socco (Souk). This great souk was full of life, and remains a busy place, especially when Riffian peasants come to market. It is the centre of things and the link between the medina and the new city.

Our next stop to visit is the American legation which traces the history of the relationship between the United States and Morocco.
We continue with a short drive to visit the Saint Andrew’s Church, which is built on land given to the government of the Queen of Great Britain -Queen Victoria- by the Sultan Moulay Hassan I in 1883. (Century earlier Morocco had been the first country in the world to recognize the independence of the United States of America).

Afterwards, we walk to the hotel Villa de France to enjoy a refreshment before returning to the ship.

Our main highlight of the day is the region of Alpujarras and its “White towns”, these series of villages are perched in the mountains of Sierra Nevada up north from Motril.

The first stop on our way to the Alpujarras is the Nazari garden also known as “The garden of senses”, it is a unique location in a charming town Velez de Benaudalla. At the garden we will see a great collection of various endemic plants and during the visit we will understand why this place is focused on having all our senses working and enjoying the ambiance. All dates to when Muslims lived there and they are the ones who designed the place having gardens, orchards and of course water, there are channels all around which gives the place a special touch.

After the visit of this garden, we continue to Alpujarras, along the way the guide will show you some of the villages that form this special place. In 1568, a local landowner decided to rebel against the new Christian King, Felipe II. The Moors revolted but eventually turned to infighting and were finally expelled from Spain in 1609 by Juan de Austria. We will finish our visit with a stop at the workshop of a weaver who will demonstrate the secrets of the weave technique used until today using an old machine made of wood. Enjoy a refreshment stop and try local products before returning to the ship.
