Visa Requirements
Visa requirements vary by country and depend on your nationality, destination, and the length of your stay. To ensure a smooth travel experience, we recommend checking official government websites and reaching out to the relevant embassies or consulates for the most up-to-date information. Keep in mind that visa processing can take time, so it’s always a good idea to start your application early to avoid any last-minute issues.
**Starting January 8, 2025**
US citizens will be required to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) visa prior to visiting or transiting the UK. Countries included in the UK are England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
The ETA visa is a quick and convenient way for Americans to securely enter the UK. It’s an entirely online process that takes just minutes to complete, and it’s valid for multiple trips over the course of 2 years.
Why the ETA Visa is Good News for Travelers?
• Hassle-free entry into the UK with pre-approved authorization
• Increased security and reduced wait times at UK borders
• Validity for 2 years, allowing you to visit the UK multiple times
• ETA’s are generally issued within 3 business days – Issuing may take longer in some cases
*Please note, if you have been issued an ETA visa and renew your passport, you will need to apply for a new visa.

What is the Entry/Exit System (EES)?
The Entry/Exit System (EES) is a new border control system being introduced by the European Union (EU) to enhance security and streamline travel for visitors from countries like the United States.
How does it affect U.S. travelers?
If you’re traveling to Europe for tourism, business, or transit (short stays up to 90 days), the EES will:
- Digitally record your entry and exit each time you cross into or out of participating European countries
- Replace passport stamping with an electronic system
- Track your length of stay to ensure you don’t exceed the 90-day limit within a 180-day period
What information will be collected?
When you first enter a participating country, you may be asked to provide:
- Passport details
- A photo (facial image)
- Fingerprints
This information will be stored securely and used for future entries, making repeat travel faster.
What countries use EES?
EES applies to countries in Europe’s Schengen Area, including popular destinations like:
- France
- Italy
- Spain
- Germany
- Greece
What does this mean for your trip?
- Expect slightly longer processing times on your first trip after ESS launches
- Future trips should be quicker and more automated
- You’ll no longer receive passport stamps for these countries
Europe’s new Entry/Exit System has already started rolling out, but it is being introduced gradually. During 2025-2026, travelers may experience a mix of traditional passport stamping and the new digital system. By April 2026, EES is expected to be fully in place across all participating countries.
