Aurora Borealis and Sightseeing
Experience the magic of the Yukon in a way that’s unforgettable, immersive, and truly otherworldly. This 4-day Northern Lights adventure takes you from Vancouver into the heart of Whitehorse, where crisp Arctic air, snow-covered landscapes, and wide-open skies set the stage for one of nature’s most breathtaking performances.
By night, you’ll venture out under vast norther skies in search of the Aurora Borealis – watching waves of green and violet light dance across the darkness in a quiet, awe-inspiring display. By day, discover the rugged beauty of the Yukon through handpicked experiences, including a guided wildlife and hot springs excursion and an exhilarating dog sledding adventure through pristine winter terrain.
This is more than a winter getaway, it’s a chance to step into a true northern frontier, where nature leads, silence is powerful, and every night holds the possibility of a sky set ablaze with light you’ll never forget.
Pre-Program
Make your way to Vancouver on your own. Or consult us and we’ll organize a package including hotel, transfers, and sightseeing as desired.
Day 1 – Monday, February 15
- You begin your journey in Vancouver with a midday flight to Whitehorse, arriving in the early evening. Upon landing, you are met and transferred to your hotel in downtown Whitehorse, the Hyatt Place, where you’ll stay for the next three nights.
- After settling in, you’ll receive a short briefing before your first excursion into the winter night. That evening, you head out to a heated viewing location outside the city for your first chance to see the Northern Lights. With hot drinks in hand and the warmth of the cabin or tent, you’ll watch for the Aurora as it moves across the sky before returning to your hotel in the early hours of the morning.
Day 2 – Tuesday, February 16
- The day begins at a relaxed pace in Whitehorse. In the afternoon, you’ll join a guided excursion to the Yukon Wildlife Preserve, where you can observe northern animals such as moose, caribou, and mountain goats in a natural setting. From there, the journey continues to Eclipse Hot Springs, where you can unwind in naturally heated pools surrounded by snow-covered wilderness.
- During your stay, you will have a guided Whitehorse sightseeing tour which includes visits to Main Street, the train depot of White Pass and Yukon Route, the visitor centre, log skyscraper, log church, Sternwheeler SS Klondike, fish ladder, Schwatka Lake, and residential areas.
- Later that evening, you’ll head out again for your second Aurora viewing experience. Once more, you’ll travel to a comfortable, heated location outside the city, where you can enjoy drinks, snacks, and the quiet anticipation of the Northern Lights before returning to your hotel late at night.
Day 3 – Wednesday, February 17
- Your afternoon is dedicated to one of the Yukon’s most iconic experiences: dog sledding. After a transfer from your hotel, you’ll visit a local kennel where you’ll meet the sled dogs and learn how to prepare and handle the team. Led by an experienced musher, you’ll travel through snowy forest trails, taking turns driving and riding in the sled.
- That night, you’ll once again venture out under the Arctic sky for your final Aurora viewing. With the same warm setup, refreshments, and guided experience, you’ll have one more opportunity to witness the Northern Lights before your final night in Whitehorse.
Day 4 – Thursday, February 18
- After breakfast, you are transferred to the airport for your return flight to Vancouver, bringing your Yukon winter adventure to a close.
