Visa Requirements

Visa requirements vary by country and depend on your nationality, destination, and the length of your stay. To ensure a smooth travel experience, we recommend checking official government websites and reaching out to the relevant embassies or consulates for the most up-to-date information. Keep in mind that visa processing can take time, so it's always a good idea to start your application early to avoid any last-minute issues.

**Starting January 8, 2025**

US citizens will be required to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) visa prior to visiting or transiting the UK. Countries included in the UK are England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The ETA visa is a quick and convenient way for Americans to securely enter the UK. It's an entirely online process that takes just minutes to complete, and it's valid for multiple trips over the course of 2 years.

Why the ETA Visa is Good News for Travelers?

• Hassle-free entry into the UK with pre-approved authorization
• Increased security and reduced wait times at UK borders
• Validity for 2 years, allowing you to visit the UK multiple times
• ETA’s are generally issued within 3 business days – Issuing may take longer in some cases

*Please note, if you have been issued an ETA visa and renew your passport, you will need to apply for a new visa.

New Requirements to Travel to Europe...

(updated August 2023, this has been delayed until 2024)

Updated October 24, 2023 - this has now been delayed until mid-2025; more details will post here as we know them.

The European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) is an online travel authorization for U.S. citizens visiting the Schengen Area. Here's a simple guide to help you understand the key points:

  1. Eligibility
U.S. citizens are required to apply for ETIAS to travel to any Schengen Area country. The ETIAS applies for short stays (up to 90 days in a 180-day period) for purposes like tourism, business, or transit. It is not for long-term stays or work.
  2. Application Process
    • Documents Needed: You’ll need a valid passport with a machine-readable section (and possibly an electronic chip).
    • How to Apply: Fill out the application online via the official website or app. You’ll need personal details, travel info, and a criminal background check.
    • Fee: There is a €7 fee (about $7.21). Applicants under 18, over 70, or family members of EU citizens are exempt from the fee.
  3. Approval & Validity
Once approved, your ETIAS will be electronically linked to your passport. It’s valid for up to three years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. It allows multiple entries, each for up to 90 days within a 180-day period. However, the final decision on entry is made by border control officials.
  4. Processing Time
Most applications are approved quickly (often within minutes), but some may take up to 4 days, or longer if further information is needed. Apply well in advance of your travel.
  5. Important Notes
    • ETIAS does not guarantee entry into the Schengen Area—border control has the final say.
    • You must have a passport valid for at least three months beyond your planned stay.

Make sure to check the official website for the latest details before you apply!

**Starting May 7, 2025**

U.S. travelers will need a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or identification card to board domestic flights. This requirement, part of the REAL ID Act, aims to enhance security by establishing stronger identity verification standards.

Why the REAL ID Requirement is Important for Travelers:

• Streamlined entry at airport security and federal facilities
• Increased security to protect against identity fraud
• All states now issue REAL ID-compliant IDs
• Avoid delays at security by upgrading your ID before the deadline

Reminder: If your ID is not REAL ID-compliant, you will not be able to use it for airport security or federal facilities starting May 7, 2025. Visit TSA.gov for more information on how to obtain a REAL ID.
